OUR STORY
Turning Hard Lessons Into Habitat Wins
At Fallout Farms, we've been managing waterfowl habitat for over 20 years. In the early years, like many land managers, we relied on memory, notebooks, and scattered calendars to keep track of what we did—if we tracked anything at all. There was no central system, no history to refer to, and no way to know what was working and what wasn’t.
We missed key timings. Forgot past planting dates. Let equipment maintenance slip. And year after year, we watched the flyway shift further and further away from our property.
That all changed when we got serious about organization and record keeping. We began tracking every water drawdown, every planting, every pass with the sprayer—and the difference was dramatic.
We went from virtually zero duck use to holding and keeping thousands and thousands of ducks throughout the season—not just during peak migration, but from September until the ice comes. What used to be a pass-through became a destination. Our farm now consistently holds birds, draws birds, and keeps birds—because we finally had the tools and information to manage it right.
But even then, we were still juggling spreadsheets, phone notes, and hand-drawn maps. That’s why we built Create the X—a tool we wish we had from the start. It’s built for people who manage habitat, move dirt, run equipment, and want to keep and hold ducks year after year.
